DO ANTI BLUE LIGHT GLASSES WORK?

Many parents are concerned about the harmful effects of blue light on their children. Blue light from the sun and man-made sources such as phone screens and computer screens seem to be a huge problem for kids. It can cause eye strain, sleep problems, and headaches, and can suppress melatonin. There is a lot of buzz about anti blue light glasses for kids, but do they really work?

Eye strain is one of the most common complaints today as kids are spending more and more time staring at digital screens. These glasses that filter blue light are gaining popularity because they claim that they can help lessen eyestrain, improve sleep habits, and prevent eye disease.

Wearing blue light glasses improved sleep quality and quantity, according to a study published in the journal Applied Psychology in 2021. Work performance was also improved when the glasses were worn.

There is still an ongoing study on how effective these blue light glasses but doctors said that these blue light glasses are likely no harm, especially on kids.

Aside from wearing anti blue light glasses, you can also use these tips to help reduce your kid’s exposure to blue light.

Limit the amount of screen time

You can help your children’s circadian rhythm by limiting their use of electronic devices after classes are over.

Practice the 20-20-20 Rule

Many doctors have recommended this method to reduce digital eye strain. Once your kid is using digital screens for an hour or more, let them look every 20 minutes at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Decrease Screen Brightness

Minimizing screen brightness helps reduce eye fatigue and strain, and also decreases the damage done to the eyes. Darker colors on the screen make it easier for the eyes to adjust to the changing brightness.

Proper Posture

A study done has found that if a person’s computer screen is at eye-level, his cognitive performance increases by 30%. This is because the neck does not have to flex down to look at your work. The study also found that if you support your child’s feet, his cognitive performance is improved by 10%.

Take Breaks

If your kids are between the ages of 3 to 4, you need to make sure that they are getting enough exercise. Aim to ensure that they are getting at least an hour of moderate- to vigorous-intensity exercise every day.
